How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Choose Your Canada Plan
Pick a data package that covers your Montreal stay and any onward travel across Canada — plans work nationwide on Bell, Rogers, and Telus networks.
  2. Install at Home Over WiFi
Scan the QR code on your home network before you head to the airport. The profile sits dormant until you activate it after landing at YUL.
  3. Board Your Flight to Montreal
Your phone carries both your home SIM (for incoming calls) and the eSIM profile. Nothing activates mid-flight — relax until touchdown.
  4. Activate After Landing at YUL
Once the captain clears phone use at the gate, switch off airplane mode and enable the eSIM line. Your phone connects to Canadian networks before you unbuckle.
  5. Navigate YUL and Beyond
By the time you reach the public arrivals hall, your data is live — check the 747 Express schedule, confirm your Uber pickup at Door 24, or message your hotel in Old Montreal.

Traveler Tips

  • The 747 Express bus to downtown Berri-UQAM departs from the arrivals level every 10-20 minutes and accepts contactless payment — your fare (around CAD $11) doubles as a 24-hour STM transit pass.
  • Uber and Lyft pickups are at Door 24, third lane — surge pricing spikes after evening transatlantic arrivals, so check the app fare estimate before committing.
  • US-bound connections require US Preclearance after you recheck bags — allow at least 2 hours for international-to-US transfers.
  • Domestic-to-domestic connections through the single terminal need around 60 minutes; walking from the far Domestic jetty to Transborder takes 15-20 minutes at a steady pace.
  • Keep your home SIM active for incoming calls — eSIMno handles data (maps, rideshare, messaging), while your home number stays reachable for voice.

Why You Need an eSIM at YUL

Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport processes arrivals quickly — immigration queues move, baggage carousels spin, and the public hall opens onto ground transport options in minutes. The moment your phone leaves airplane mode, you need data. The 747 Express departs from the arrivals curb every 10-20 minutes, Uber and Lyft stage at Door 24 with live driver tracking, and flat-rate taxis to downtown Montreal run around CAD $48.65 with no app required but every confirmation message still needs a signal. Free YUL WiFi exists but captive-portal registration adds friction when you're juggling bags and boarding passes.

Your eSIMno plans for Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Montreal, Quebec, Canada connect through Bell, Rogers, Telus, and regional carriers — the same networks locals use across Quebec and Canada. Whether you're heading to Bell Centre for a Canadiens game, checking into Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth downtown, or catching the future REM light-rail once it opens in late 2027, your data works without swapping SIMs. Real-time gate-change notifications, Google Maps live traffic for the ride into the city, and WhatsApp messages to whoever's picking you up all run on your own data line — no kiosk queue, no captive portal, no downtime.

Connecting passengers face tighter windows. International arrivals rerouting to US destinations must clear Canadian customs, recheck bags, and pass through US Preclearance — a process that can take 90 minutes or more. Flight-status updates push to your phone faster than overhead monitors refresh. Domestic connectors walking from Gate 68 to Gate 10 cover 15-20 minutes of corridor; a gate change mid-walk means pulling up the airline app, not hunting for a departures screen. YUL is a single terminal, but it's a long one — your phone keeps you oriented.

Visiting YUL

YUL sits in Dorval, approximately 20 km west of downtown Montreal. Journey time to the city center ranges from 20 minutes off-peak to 45 minutes during rush hour via taxi or rideshare. The 747 Express bus is the most economical option — it runs 24/7, terminates at Berri-UQAM metro station, and your fare works as a full-day STM pass covering metro and city buses.

Terminal Layout

The airport operates as a single integrated building divided into Domestic (Gates 1-28), International (Gates 50-68), and Transborder (Gates 72-83) jetties. All three branch from a central public hall — no shuttle or people mover required. The signature US Preclearance facility lets US-bound passengers clear CBP on Canadian soil before boarding, arriving stateside as domestic travelers.

Lounges and WiFi

Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges serve Domestic, International, and Transborder sectors. The National Bank World MasterCard Lounge and Escape Lounge (Priority Pass) cover the Transborder side. Lounge WiFi is faster than the public network, but your own eSIM data line gives you a backup when lounge capacity fills during peak departures.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Activate after landing — once your flight taxis to the gate and the captain clears phone use, switch off airplane mode and enable the eSIM data line. By the time you're walking past the Jacques de Tonnancour stained-glass installation in the public hall, your phone is already pulling directions to the 747 Express stop or tracking your Uber driver at Door 24.
Yes — eSIMno plans cover all of Canada on Bell, Rogers, Telus, and regional networks. Your data works at YUL, across downtown Montreal, up to Mont-Tremblant, or onward to Vancouver, Toronto, or anywhere else in the country.
The 747 Express bus departs from the arrivals level every 10-20 minutes and reaches Berri-UQAM metro station in 45-70 minutes depending on traffic. Your fare (around CAD $11) doubles as a 24-hour STM pass. Taxis run a flat rate of approximately CAD $48.65 to downtown, and Uber/Lyft pickups stage at Door 24 — live driver tracking on your eSIM data helps you coordinate the pickup.
Yes — your home SIM stays active for incoming calls and texts while the eSIM handles data. Use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Meet over your eSIM data for outgoing calls instead of placing native voice calls through your home SIM, which would trigger roaming charges.
Allow at least 2 hours for international-to-US connections. You must clear Canadian customs, recheck bags, and pass through US Preclearance — a full CBP and TSA-equivalent screening process. Real-time flight updates on your phone help you track any gate changes while you navigate the Transborder jetty.
Free WiFi exists throughout the terminal but requires captive-portal registration that can frustrate jet-lagged arrivals. Speed and congestion vary by terminal sector and time of day. Your own eSIM data line bypasses the login friction entirely and keeps you connected from gate to ground transport.

Get Started
YUL handles over 21 million passengers annually, and the arrival flow moves fast once you clear customs. Your phone needs data before you reach the public hall — the 747 Express bus to Berri-UQAM runs every 10-20 minutes at CAD $11, Uber and Lyft pickups queue at Door 24, and flat-rate taxis to downtown Montreal run around CAD $48.65. Each option requires live navigation, fare confirmation, or a pickup message. An eSIM activated before takeoff means your phone connects the moment you switch off airplane mode at the gate. Montréal-Trudeau operates as a single integrated terminal split into Domestic, International, and Transborder jetties. Walking from the far Domestic gate to the US Preclearance hall takes 15-20 minutes — gate changes happen, connections tighten, and the flight-info boards update faster than you can memorize. Real-time notifications on your phone beat scanning overhead monitors. The free YUL WiFi requires captive-portal registration that slows jet-lagged arrivals; your own data line bypasses that friction entirely. Your eSIMno plan covers Bell, Rogers, Telus, and regional carriers across Canada — the same networks Canadians use daily. Whether you're connecting onward to for a West Coast leg, heading downtown to for the weekend, or catching the future REM light-rail once it opens, your data works seamlessly. Buy once at home, install over WiFi, activate after landing, and you're set from YUL to anywhere in Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find helpful information to answer your questions

Does the eSIM work on cruise ships or airplanes?
eSIMs use ground-based cellular networks, so they don't work in flight or at sea outside coastal coverage. They activate as soon as you connect to a partner network on land. For in-flight or maritime data, you'll need the airline or ship's onboard Wi-Fi.
Can I keep my WhatsApp number while using an eSIM?
Yes. Your WhatsApp number stays linked to your home SIM, so all your chats, contacts, and groups remain unchanged. WhatsApp uses data (not the SIM line directly) for messages and calls, so it works seamlessly over your eSIMno data.
What makes eSIMno different from other eSIM services?
eSIMno partners directly with local operators in over 200 countries, eliminating intermediaries. This direct relationship lets us offer competitive pricing, extensive coverage, and faster activation than resellers who route data through third parties.
Can I tether or use Personal Hotspot with my eSIM?
Yes. Your eSIMno plan supports tethering and Personal Hotspot at no extra charge. Activate the Personal Hotspot feature in your device settings and connect other devices as you would with any cellular plan. Data used while tethering counts toward your plan allowance.
Can I buy an eSIM for someone else as a gift?
Yes. Purchase the eSIM with your own details, then forward your order confirmation email - or share the "Install eSIM" link from it - with the recipient so they can install it on their own phone (the email contains the QR code and the manual SM-DP+ / activation codes). Make sure their device is eSIM-compatible first - installation usually cannot be reversed once completed.
Can I install multiple eSIMs on the same phone?
Yes. Modern iPhones and Android devices support multiple eSIM profiles - typically 5 to 8 stored profiles, with 1 or 2 active simultaneously. You can install eSIMs for different countries and switch between them in settings without removing any.
Can I extend my eSIM plan validity?
The validity of a package that is already running cannot be extended, but you can top up: a top-up adds a new package with its own data AND its own validity days. Packages run one at a time - the top-up waits in queue and activates automatically when your current package ends (data used up or days expired), and its own days start counting from that moment. In practice this keeps you connected longer, even though the current package's own end date does not move.
When should I set up my eSIM?
A Wi-Fi connection is required to install your eSIM, so we recommend setting it up before you leave home. Activation can happen later, either right before departure or after you land at your destination - but the initial QR scan needs Wi-Fi.
How can I purchase the Canada eSIM?
You can purchase your eSIM directly from the eSIMno website - select a Canada plan and complete the payment. Within minutes you'll receive an order confirmation email that contains everything you need to install: a QR code, a one-tap install link, the SM-DP+ address and activation code, plus an "Install eSIM" button. You can install straight from that email, or sign in anytime and go to Profile > My eSIMs > Install to get the same options.
Can I switch the eSIM to a different phone after activation?
Generally no. Once an eSIM is activated on a device, it's tied to that device. If you switch phones, you'll need to install a new eSIM. Some carriers offer eSIM transfer features, but eSIMno plans don't currently support transfer between devices.
Should I enable data roaming for the eSIM?
Yes - you must enable data roaming for the eSIM line, even though there are no roaming charges. The eSIM connects to a local partner network and your phone treats this as roaming. Enable it: iPhone > Settings > Cellular > eSIMno line > Data Roaming ON; Android > Settings > Network > SIMs > eSIMno > Roaming ON. This setting only affects the eSIM, not your home SIM.
What happens if I pause my trip and return home?
Your eSIM keeps its validity period running whether you're using it or not - pausing your trip doesn't pause the timer. If you return home, the eSIM stays dormant on your device until you travel again or it expires. You can disable it in cellular settings to avoid accidental usage.
