  1. Select Your Data Plan
Choose from multiple data sizes and validity periods based on how many of the 20 countries you plan to visit and how long your African adventure lasts.
  2. Complete Your Purchase
Check out with your email address. Your eSIM QR code arrives instantly—ready for your multi-country trip.
  3. Scan and Install Before Departure
Use your phone's camera to scan the QR code while still on home WiFi. The eSIM installs in under 2 minutes and sits dormant until you activate it.
  4. Land in Any Covered Country and Enable
Touch down in Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, or any of the 20 covered destinations. Go to Settings, select your eSIM line, and enable data roaming.
  5. Cross Borders Without Touching Your Settings
Your eSIM automatically connects to local networks in each new country. Drive from Botswana into South Africa or fly from Madagascar to Malawi—your data follows without any manual switching.

Traveler Tips

  • Download offline maps of all countries on your route before leaving home—the Maasai Mara and Okavango Delta have limited tower coverage, and cached maps save data.
  • Keep your home SIM in the secondary slot for incoming calls. Voice reaches your normal number; use WhatsApp or FaceTime over eSIMno data for outgoing calls to avoid roaming charges.
  • At the Kazungula border crossing between Botswana and Zambia, your eSIM switches networks within 30 seconds—no need to buy a new SIM on either side.
  • Carry a portable power bank rated at 20,000mAh or higher. Safari vehicles in Chobe and Kruger run long days with limited charging access.
  • Install Maps.me and download country packs for Madagascar and the Central African Republic where Google Maps coverage thins outside capital cities.
  • Set your phone to prefer 4G/LTE only in cities like Johannesburg and Nairobi to lock onto faster towers and prevent battery drain from network hunting.

Why Data Matters Across Africa

Reliable mobile data transforms how you experience Africa. In Kenya's Maasai Mara National Reserve, guides use WhatsApp groups to share live lion and cheetah sightings—your phone pings with coordinates minutes after a big cat appears. At Victoria Falls on the Zambia-Zimbabwe border, you can livestream the spray to family back home. In Cape Town, the MyCiTi bus app shows real-time arrivals and lets you tap-to-pay for routes across the city.

Navigation apps become essential on overland routes. The stretch between Gaborone and Maun in Botswana covers 900 kilometers with sparse signage—Google Maps or Maps.me running on eSIMno plans for Africa keeps you on track. Safari lodges in Kruger National Park and Etosha publish daily game-drive schedules through guest portals that require a data connection to access.

Business travelers rely on uninterrupted data for video calls between Johannesburg meetings and Nairobi conferences. Upload presentations from Libreville, join Teams calls from Antananarivo, and sync files in real time across the continent. With one data balance spanning 20 countries, you skip the productivity gaps that come with hunting for local SIM vendors in each new city.

Top Countries in Africa

Your Africa eSIM covers 20 countries, with these marquee destinations drawing the most travelers:

Kenya anchors East African safaris with the Maasai Mara's wildebeest migration running from July through October. Upload game-drive photos over 4G LTE and stream location pins to fellow travelers. Explore Kenya for full coverage details.

South Africa combines urban energy in Johannesburg and Cape Town with wilderness in Kruger National Park. Video-call from Table Mountain's summit or navigate the Garden Route with real-time traffic data. See South Africa for country-specific plans.

Botswana delivers premium safari experiences in the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park. Your data balance carries seamlessly from the Kasane border crossing through the delta's water channels.

Burkina Faso hosts the FESPACO film festival in Ouagadougou every two years, drawing filmmakers continent-wide. Stream schedules and venue maps on arrival without pausing for a local SIM.

Central African Republic offers access to the Dzanga-Sangha Reserve, home to forest elephants and western lowland gorillas. Data coverage concentrates around Bangui, with your eSIM connecting to available towers throughout your stay.

Table Mountain Vista

Getting Around Africa

Africa's transport networks reward flexible travelers. Budget airlines like Kenya Airways, South African Airways, and Ethiopian Airlines connect major hubs with flight times under 4 hours between Nairobi, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, and Cape Town. Book internal flights separately from international legs to unlock regional pricing.

Overland routes offer immersive alternatives. The Tazara Railway runs 1,860 kilometers from Dar es Salaam to Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia over 46 hours, crossing through baobab forests and rural villages. The Baz Bus in South Africa operates hop-on-hop-off service along the coast from Cape Town to Durban, stopping at backpacker hostels.

Border crossings vary in complexity. The Beitbridge crossing between South Africa and Zimbabwe processes thousands of vehicles daily—arrive before 7 AM to minimize wait times. The Kazungula Bridge between Botswana and Zambia, opened in 2021, cut crossing times from 3 days to under 2 hours.

Ferries serve island destinations and lake crossings. The MV Ilala steams across Lake Malawi between Monkey Bay and Nkhata Bay on a weekly schedule covering 350 kilometers. Madagascar's coastal ferries connect Toamasina to smaller port towns along the eastern shore.

Organized overland tours run set routes lasting 2 to 12 weeks. Popular circuits include the Cape Town to Nairobi route via Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Tanzania—covering roughly 8,000 kilometers with camping stops at national parks and cultural sites along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Yes. A single eSIM profile connects to local networks in every covered country, from Kenya and South Africa to Madagascar and the Central African Republic. Your data balance stays unified across all borders—no separate purchases required when you enter a new country.

Nothing manual. When you drive from Botswana into South Africa at the Kazungula crossing or fly from Nairobi to Johannesburg, your phone automatically registers on available networks in the new country within 30-60 seconds. Keep data roaming enabled and your device handles the rest.

The plan covers 20 countries across the continent. Scroll to the Countries Covered section on this page for the complete list—it includes destinations from East Africa through Southern Africa to West African nations.

Yes. Keep your home SIM active in the secondary slot and incoming calls reach your normal number as usual. The eSIMno plan is data-only, so use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Meet over your eSIM data for outgoing calls to avoid international roaming charges from your home carrier.

Budget 5-10 GB for moderate use including daily photo uploads, maps navigation, and messaging. Heavy video callers or those streaming content should select a larger plan. Pick a validity period that matches your 21-day trip length from the options below.

Major safari camps and lodges in the Maasai Mara, Chobe National Park, and Kruger National Park sit within 4G LTE coverage zones. Remote bush camps and delta water channels may drop to 3G or lose signal entirely—download offline maps before game drives to stay oriented in low-coverage areas.

Seamless global eSIM coverage

Get Started
An Africa eSIM from eSIMno covers 20 countries with a single data plan, activating the moment you land in any covered destination. Whether you touch down in Nairobi, Johannesburg, or Libreville, your phone connects to local 4G LTE networks automatically. There is no physical SIM to insert, no airport kiosk to find, and no activation delay—just scan the QR code before departure and enable roaming after landing. Cross-border travel across Africa presents unique connectivity challenges. A safari that starts in the Maasai Mara and continues to Chobe National Park would traditionally require two separate SIM cards, two activation processes, and careful timing at the border. With a multi-country Africa eSIM, your data balance carries over every frontier. Stream maps while navigating from Gaborone to Johannesburg, video call home from a Madagascar beach, or upload photos from Victoria Falls without worrying about your connection dropping when you cross into a new country. This regional eSIM suits backpackers covering the classic overland routes, business travelers with meetings in multiple capitals, tour groups on organized safaris spanning several reserves, and cruise passengers making port calls across the continent. Select from multiple data sizes and validity periods below to match your itinerary length and streaming habits. Your dual-SIM phone keeps your home number active for incoming calls while eSIMno handles all your data needs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find helpful information to answer your questions

What customer support is available if I have issues?
eSIMno offers 24/7 support via WhatsApp and email. Our human support team - not bots - handles installation help, troubleshooting, billing questions, and refund inquiries. Most issues are resolved within minutes during business hours and within a few hours overnight.
What happens when my data plan runs out?
When you use up your data allowance, your connection stops until you top up or purchase a new plan. You can top up directly from the eSIMno Center while connected to Wi-Fi, or buy a new plan if your validity period has expired.
What smartphones support eSIM?
Most modern devices support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 through S25 series, Google Pixel 4 and later, Huawei P40 and later, and many recent iPads. Check our full compatibility list before purchasing to confirm your device is supported.
What should I do if I lose my activation QR code?
You can't really lose it - your QR code is in your order confirmation email, and also in the install pop-up on the website. To reopen it any time before activation, tap "Install eSIM" in your order email, or sign in at esimno.com and go to Profile > My eSIMs > Install. Both show the QR code together with the one-tap install link and the manual SM-DP+ / activation code. Note the install codes are one-time-use: once the eSIM is installed on a device they can't be reused - reopen the installer (My eSIMs > Install) to display a fresh QR if you need one.
How long is the validity of the Africa eSIM plans?
The validity of eSIM plans varies from 7 days to 90 days depending on the plan you choose. Lifetime options are also available for travelers who don't want their data to expire after a fixed period.
How can I verify if my eSIM is activated?
There are two clear indicators: (1) your phone's status bar shows the local carrier name once you arrive at your destination, and (2) the data icon (4G, LTE, or 5G) appears next to the eSIMno line in your cellular settings. If neither shows up, toggle airplane mode off and on, or restart your phone.
Can I install multiple eSIMs on the same phone?
Yes. Modern iPhones and Android devices support multiple eSIM profiles - typically 5 to 8 stored profiles, with 1 or 2 active simultaneously. You can install eSIMs for different countries and switch between them in settings without removing any.
Can I share data from my eSIM with someone else's phone?
Yes, through Personal Hotspot. Activate hotspot on your phone, share the password, and the other device connects to your data. Data used by connected devices counts toward your eSIM plan, so monitor usage to avoid running out faster than expected.
Can I use the eSIM to make video calls?
Yes - apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams all work over your eSIM data. Video calls use about 200-400 MB per hour depending on quality, so factor that into your plan choice if you make long calls regularly.
Are there any hidden fees or extra charges?
No. The price you see at checkout is the total price - no activation fees, no hidden taxes, no roaming surcharges. Your data plan is fixed-price, and you'll never receive a surprise bill from your home carrier as long as you keep cellular data off on your home SIM.
How do I delete an eSIM I no longer need?
On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap the eSIM line > Remove eSIM. On Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > tap the eSIM > Erase. Deleting the eSIM frees up a profile slot. Make sure you don't need it anymore - once deleted, you can't reinstall the same profile.
Do I need to remove my eSIM after my trip?
You don't have to remove it. Once your data plan expires, the eSIM simply stops providing data. You can leave the dormant profile on your phone and reuse it next time by purchasing a new plan, or delete it from cellular settings to free up an eSIM slot.
