How to Get Your eSIM

  1. Pick Your USA Data Plan
Choose from 1GB to unlimited options based on your trip length. A week exploring Midtown, catching shows, and day-tripping typically needs 3-5GB.
  2. Install at Home Before Your Flight
Download the eSIM profile over your home WiFi. The whole process takes 2-3 minutes and works on iPhone XS or newer and most recent Android devices.
  3. Board Your Flight With Data Ready
Your eSIM sits dormant during the flight. No action needed until you land — just keep airplane mode on as usual.
  4. Activate After Touchdown
Once your plane reaches the gate at JFK, Newark, or LaGuardia, switch off airplane mode. Your phone connects to AT&T or Verizon within seconds.
  5. Walk Into Times Square Connected
By the time you're on the E train from JFK or the AirTrain from Newark, your maps, rideshare apps, and Broadway confirmation emails all work seamlessly.

Traveler Tips

  • The TKTS booth at Duffy Square (47th & Broadway) sells same-day Broadway tickets at 20-50% off — check the TodayTix app for real-time line estimates before walking over.
  • Times Square pedestrian plazas stay open 24/7, but the visual spectacle peaks after sunset when the billboards hit full brightness against the darkened sky.
  • Keep your home SIM active for incoming calls — it stays dormant for voice while your eSIMno handles all data. Outgoing calls work best over WhatsApp or FaceTime using your data plan.
  • December draws the heaviest crowds for holiday displays and the New Year's Eve ball drop. NYPD barricades the area by early afternoon on December 31 — plan accordingly.
  • Subway lines 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, W, and S all stop at Times Square-42nd Street. Real-time arrival boards inside the station sync with the MTA app on your phone.

Why Data Matters at Times Square

Times Square concentrates more simultaneous smartphone users per square meter than almost anywhere else in New York City. The public WiFi networks scattered across the pedestrian plazas throttle under load, especially during the 5-8 PM theater rush when tourists check TKTS wait times, pull up TodayTix reservations, and coordinate rideshare pickups along 42nd Street. An eSIMno plan for Times Square bypasses the congestion entirely — your phone talks directly to AT&T or Verizon macro towers instead of fighting for bandwidth on a shared hotspot.

Broadway logistics run through your phone. The Telecharge and Ticketmaster apps hold your QR tickets for shows at the Majestic, New Amsterdam, and Lyceum theaters. Intermission texts to friends waiting at Joe Allen on 46th Street or dinner reservations on Resy for Sardi's all need live data. The alternative — hunting for a restaurant's WiFi password while the second act begins — isn't worth the stress.

Transit From Times Square

The Times Square-42nd Street complex connects eight subway lines across multiple platforms. The 1/2/3 runs north toward Central Park and south to Penn Station in 3 minutes. The 7 train heads east to Grand Central in 4 minutes, connecting onward to Metro-North for day trips to the Hudson Valley. The N/Q/R/W lines serve Midtown East and Brooklyn. Real-time arrival data through the MTA app or Citymapper beats staring at a static schedule, especially when you're racing to catch a curtain.

After the Show

Post-theater Uber and Lyft surge pricing spikes hard between 10:30 and 11:15 PM along 44th and 45th Streets. Checking the app's heat map before you exit the theater lets you walk two blocks toward Eighth Avenue where pickup zones clear faster. Without data, you're guessing — or paying the peak rate.

Visiting Times Square

Times Square occupies the blocks between West 42nd and West 47th Streets where Broadway crosses Seventh Avenue. The pedestrian plazas created during the 2009 redesign stay open around the clock — there's no gate, no ticket, no closing time. Individual attractions inside the square (Madame Tussauds, Ripley's Believe It or Not, Gulliver's Gate) charge separate admission and keep their own hours, generally 10 AM to 10 PM.

Peak Crowds and Quieter Windows

The lightest foot traffic hits before 9 AM when only commuters cut through. After 6 PM the plazas fill with theater-goers and the full billboard display comes alive. Saturday evenings from 7-11 PM draw the densest crowds of the week. December holiday weeks and New Year's Eve require patience — or a willingness to view from a distance along Eighth Avenue.

Dress and Security

No dress code applies to the public plazas. Costumed performers (Elmo, Spider-Man, the Naked Cowboy) expect tips for photos — $2-5 is standard. NYPD maintains a visible presence, and vehicle barriers protect the pedestrian zones. Tripods and professional camera rigs may require permits for commercial shoots but casual photography is unrestricted.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Install the eSIM profile at home over WiFi before your flight. After your plane lands at JFK, Newark, or LaGuardia and taxis to the gate, switch off airplane mode. By the time you're on the AirTrain or E train heading toward Midtown, your phone is already pulling directions and TKTS wait times.

Yes. The MTA has deployed cellular repeaters across the Times Square-42nd Street complex and most Manhattan stations. Your eSIMno data stays live on the platform and in the tunnels between stations, so real-time arrival updates and group texts keep working underground.

Absolutely. Your home SIM stays in the phone for incoming calls and texts — it just sits dormant for data. For outgoing calls, use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Meet over your eSIMno data to avoid roaming charges on your home carrier.

A typical three-day visit with maps, rideshare apps, Broadway ticket QR codes, and social-media uploads runs 2-4GB. If you're streaming video in the hotel or video-calling home nightly, budget 5GB or more. Plans scale from 1GB to unlimited depending on your usage.

Yes. The same plan covers the entire USA — Liberty Island ferries, the paths through Central Park, and even a weekend flight to Chicago or Los Angeles. One activation, nationwide coverage, no plan changes needed.

Crowd density affects shared public WiFi far more than cellular. Your eSIM connects directly to AT&T or Verizon macro towers that serve the Midtown grid. Even on a packed Saturday night at the TKTS steps, your data holds steady while the plaza WiFi crawls.

Seamless global eSIM coverage

Get Started
Times Square draws visitors into the heart of Midtown Manhattan where digital billboards tower above pedestrian plazas and Broadway theaters cluster along side streets from 42nd to 47th. Your phone handles the logistics — pulling up show confirmations, checking TKTS wait times on the app, and booking post-theater rides through the evening surge. The eSIM you install before departure means your data works the instant you land at JFK or Newark, with no airport kiosk queue slowing your arrival. The density of Times Square creates its own connectivity challenge. Fifty million annual visitors compete for bandwidth across public WiFi networks that throttle under load, especially on weekend evenings when theater crowds, tourists, and commuters converge. An eSIM on AT&T or Verizon taps directly into macro-tower coverage that blankets the Crossroads of the World without the captive-portal friction. Beyond the neon canyon, your plan keeps working across the entire USA. Day trips to the Statue of Liberty, weekend escapes to Boston, or cross-country flights to Los Angeles all stay on the same data. One purchase before your flight, one activation after landing, and your phone handles everything from Penn Station schedules to Central Park picnic spots without switching plans or buying a second SIM.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find helpful information to answer your questions

Can I switch the eSIM to a different phone after activation?
Generally no. Once an eSIM is activated on a device, it's tied to that device. If you switch phones, you'll need to install a new eSIM. Some carriers offer eSIM transfer features, but eSIMno plans don't currently support transfer between devices.
Will I get notifications when my data is running low?
Yes. eSIMno sends email and push notifications when you've used 50%, 80%, and 100% of your data allowance. You can also check usage anytime in the eSIMno Center or in your phone's cellular settings to track consumption in real time.
How do I activate the United-states eSIM?
Your eSIMno order confirmation email contains your QR code, your SM-DP+ address and activation code, a one-tap install link, and an "Install eSIM" button - so you can install right from the email. The same options are also on the website: sign in at esimno.com and go to Profile > My eSIMs > your plan > Install. To install, use any ONE of these methods: (1) on the phone you are setting up, tap the one-tap install link/button (iPhone on iOS 17.4+ or Android 9+); (2) use the QR code - because a phone cannot scan its own screen, show this QR on another screen (computer/tablet) or a printout and scan it WITH the phone you are setting up (never with someone else's phone, or the eSIM would install on that phone); or (3) enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code manually. Your United-states eSIM activates automatically when you connect to a local network at your destination.
Is unlimited data really unlimited?
Unlimited plans provide unlimited data at high speed (4G/5G) up to a fair-use threshold defined per plan. Beyond that threshold, speeds may be reduced to 128 Kbps for the remainder of the validity period - still usable for messaging and basic browsing, but slower for streaming and video calls.
Can I use the eSIM for my smartwatch?
Some smartwatches (Apple Watch Cellular, Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE) support eSIM, but they typically require a plan from your home carrier rather than a travel eSIM. eSIMno plans are designed for phones and tablets - check device compatibility before purchase if you intend to use a wearable.
Can I use my SIM card and eSIM at the same time?
Yes. On dual-SIM devices (most modern iPhones and Android phones), you can run your physical SIM and the eSIM simultaneously. Use your home SIM for calls and SMS, and the eSIM for mobile data. Keep in mind that leaving your home SIM active may trigger roaming charges if you use it for calls or texts abroad.
Should I enable data roaming for the eSIM?
Yes - you must enable data roaming for the eSIM line, even though there are no roaming charges. The eSIM connects to a local partner network and your phone treats this as roaming. Enable it: iPhone > Settings > Cellular > eSIMno line > Data Roaming ON; Android > Settings > Network > SIMs > eSIMno > Roaming ON. This setting only affects the eSIM, not your home SIM.
What payment methods does eSIMno accept?
eSIMno accepts major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All transactions are processed through secure encrypted gateways, and we don't store full card details on our servers.
Can I tether or use Personal Hotspot with my eSIM?
Yes. Your eSIMno plan supports tethering and Personal Hotspot at no extra charge. Activate the Personal Hotspot feature in your device settings and connect other devices as you would with any cellular plan. Data used while tethering counts toward your plan allowance.
How do I delete an eSIM I no longer need?
On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap the eSIM line > Remove eSIM. On Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > tap the eSIM > Erase. Deleting the eSIM frees up a profile slot. Make sure you don't need it anymore - once deleted, you can't reinstall the same profile.
How can I check my data usage?
Log in to the eSIMno Center on our website or mobile app to see your remaining data balance and usage history. You can also check usage in your phone's cellular data settings - most devices show data consumed per line.
Can I install my eSIM before traveling?
Yes - setting it up before your trip is the easiest approach. Your confirmation email contains the QR code, a one-tap install link and the manual SM-DP+ / activation codes (the same options are also available via sign in > Profile > My eSIMs > Install). While on Wi-Fi at home, install it with the one-tap link on your phone, or - to use the QR - show it on another screen or a printout and scan it with the phone you are setting up (not another phone). Installing does not start your plan: the validity countdown only begins when the eSIM connects to a mobile network inside your plan's coverage area. Keep the eSIM line and its Data Roaming off until you are ready to start - if your plan covers the country you are in right now, turning the line on connects and starts the countdown immediately, even if you do not browse anything. Please note: once installed, an eSIM is considered used and is no longer eligible for a refund.
